The calendaring standard on the PC is Microsoft Outlook which is part of Microsoft Office. The free version (Outlook Express) to my knowledge does not have a calendar function.

Part of the value appeal of MobileMe is supposed to be seemless syncing between iCal on OS X, the iPhone calendar and Microsoft Exchange (the server that Outlook talks to). I say supposed to because of the problems MobileMe has encountered with its launch.

I have my iPhone synched with an Exchange server to get my work calendar appointments and that works great. But I have not tried to use iTunes to import that calendar into iCal. While that might work, there is only one "master", i.e. new iCal entries won't end up on the iPhone or Exchange. Again, this is what MobileMe is supposed to work out for you, it in a sense becomes the master calendar, email place, etc.

There is a topic in iWeb's help for this and I've used it:

iWeb Help wrote:

Publishing to a server or hosting service other than MobileMe
Instead of publishing your site to MobileMe, you can publish your site to a folder on a local destination (your hard disk, for example) and then upload it to the server or hosting provider of your choice.

To publish your site somewhere other than MobileMe:

Choose File > “Publish to a Folder.”

If you have Subscribe buttons on your site, you must specify your site’s URL in the message that appears.

Choose a location to store your site, and then click Choose.

Use a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client to upload the site folder and index file to the location of your choice.

Rather than use FTP. I publish directly to a folder shared from my OS X Web Server, i.e. /Library/WebServer/Documents and that immediately publishes directly. Most hosting providers don't run OS X, so you have to follow the directions for using FTP or something similar.

I have a client who has just made the jump to the Mac world.
He got a new iMac for his office and a 3G iPhone but for now is holding onto his old office PC (just in case...) and still travels with his ultra small Sony notebook PC. (there's 1 more vote to bring back the 12" powerbook!!!)

He asked me today about the ability to sync contacts, calendars appointments etc. between all of the machines. Is there a PC version of iCal or something similar? Can what he wants to do be done through the new MobileMe?

I am forced to be in the PC world for work and choose the Mac world for my personal time and don't have much of a need for the two to cross. Thus, I'm not sure where to steer him.

Would appreciate any input.
Thanks.

 Howdy!

I've a few problems with the time limits in Parental Controls: a) I cannot tell how much time is left on an account, and b) I cannot add additional time to an account at will -- I have to wait for a warning dialog to come up when there's just a few minutes left.

Is there something built into OSX (GUI or CLI) that would allow me to view time remaining? Is there a way to add/modify the time remaining on an account?

Thanks!
My question is: Can I also upload a new iWeb page to my domain that is hosted on a different location other than MobileMe?

 Howdy Folks,

I am selling two NitroAV/Stardom SR3610 RAID enclosures for backup or data storage.

http://www.stardom.com.tw/sohoraid_feature.htm

I wanted to offer you these before I craigslist or eBay them.

One has 500GB (465. GB of storage capacity
Two has 640GB (596.2) GB of storage capacity

Both use USB 2 and eSATA connections.

The 500GB enclosure retails for $419.
http://www.nitroav.com/product/326/

The 640GB enclosure retails for $439.
http://www.nitroav.com/product/507/

I would like to get around $300 each with drives included.

These are great drives to have because you can easily upgrade the drives themselves for larger capacities down the road. (up to 2TB)
The drives are easy to remove and take a small footprint on the desk.

I am selling these because I have upgraded with a different type of system for data storage.

Please let me know if you have any questions and or would like to pick one or both of these up ASAP.

I can be reached at 512-963-0250

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Apple stores sell LaCie hardware so Geniuses should be aware of them. Unfortunately they won't be able to arrange any returns unless it failed within the return retail period. If they can confirm a problem with the drive itself you can use that information when you call LaCie for support or exchange.

I cold-booted the MacBook Pro with the LaCie attached. SuperDuper behaved fine until the progress bar had gone about halfway over. No fuss, just stopped. (I gave it many minutes to get going again, but no dice.) Unlike other times, this time SuperDuper allowed me to hit the Stop button, then do a File/Quit. But in an attempt to get the log file, Console locked up. I couldn't save the System log, I couldn't even force quit it. (I did see the expression "I/O error" several times in the log, but I know that's not very helpful.) I tried an Apple menu/Restart and that just gave me a never-ending gray screen. Then I held down the power key and shut down that way. After detaching the LaCie connection, the computer started up fine. And here I am. I'm thinking a trip to the Genius Bar in Portland might be a good idea. Do they deal with parties involving non-Apple hardware?

Thanks to you both for your thoughts. In the morning I'll try a Disk Utility format of the LaCie, then SuperDuper again. If there's failure, I'll try to find the log file and attach it to you.

Try formatting that external drive to clear any problems using Disk Utility.
Than install a fresh copy of the Operating System from an install CD onto that external drive.
Boot to the external drive & use Migration Assistant to gather your data from the internal drive & copy it to the external drive.
(NOTE: Initial boot should open Migration Assistant and ask if you want to transfer data)
Then do all the updates using Software Update ...

This will provide a fully bootable backup.

PS: There is always three ways to get things done. Tho this way take more effort, it does work. By the way, I use Synchronize Pro from www.qdea.com. for my backups, it costs $90.00 for two years.

Eeeek! way too much to do Mort. He should be able to do this simply with SuperDuper. I agree formatting the drive is good. But the rest SD should handle just fine.

My first experience was with SuperDuper which, in years gone by, I've used without a hitch. SuperDuper started off fine and then stopped partway into the process. There was no error message. I could not quit the program. I could not dismount the drive. I could not shut down the computer except with the power key. I tried this several times and then got in a continuing exchange with a helpful fellow at ShirtPocket Software, but he finally said, "You seem to have a hardware issue."
Neither Disk Utility or Disk Warrior (latest versions) say there's anything wrong with the LaCie.
I downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner, it started the backup fine and then also stalled without any indication of a problem. As with SuperDuper, the only thing continuing to work was the time elapsed readout. I had to force quit Carbon Copy Cloner and, as with SuperDuper, needed to shut down the computer with the power key.
Do I simply(!) need to buy a different drive or is there some info that I could profit from? I'd feel much better actually if Disk Warrior had said, "This is the most messed up hard drive I've ever dealt with." Thanks.
