Apple today announced a new milestone had been reached at the App Store – 1.5 billion apps downloaded.

That’s an improvement of 500 million since it hit the 1 billion-download mark on April 24, and it works out to a daily run rate of 6,173,000 million apps downloaded per day.

The store now offers 65,000 applications, up from 35,000 when last counted, for an average of 370 new applications per day.

“The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”
