CapMac October General Meeting - Keeping Your Mac Healthy

Thursday, October 9 , 2003
7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

CapMac Director-at-Large Tom Straus explains how to keep your Macintosh happy, healthy, and productive with commercial tools like Alsoft's Disk Warrior, Symantec's Norton Utilities, ProSoft's Data Rescue, as well as free and shareware utilities like Super Get Info and Cocktail.

Tom is a longtime Macintosh user and a member of the Apple Consultants Network, a group of over 1,000 independent technical experts in the setup, use, and maintenance of Apple and related third-party products and solutions.

Tom has extensive experience with Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X and brings a wealth of knowledge about how to approach symptoms in a systematic and logical process using a variety of tools, including many you can download yourself from Version Tracker.

Remember when general maintenance on your Mac just meant rebuilding the desktop now and then? Wondering what "repairing permissions" is all about and what it can fix? Does your Mac seem slower than it used to be? Find out what kind of regular routines will keep your Mac performing up to its potential. Disk Utility icon

Tom will also cover troubleshooting your Mac when it doesn't behave as expected and demonstrate tools you may not be aware of which provide handy shortcuts to fixing annoying symptoms. It's sure to be an enlightening evening of learning how to give your Mac useful regular care and calmly approach those rare situations that cause panic (like a blinking question mark at startup!)

We will also provide updates on our Tutor-A-Teacher program which is now up and running, and a new contest to design CapMac web badges and banners for member web sites which will feature great prizes from Adobe including new copies of Acrobat Standard Edition and GoLive, and an Apple iSight camera!
