Everyone's heard the phrase: "Sure I'd buy a Mac, but there's no software..."

As someone who's counseled many a friend to switch to Macs, longtime CapMac member Michael Sidoric finally got tired of hearing that statement go unchallenged.

"No matter what you want to do - trust me - the solution is out there, if you know where to look," Michael says assuredly.

 Knowing that perceived lack of software, and software cost often guide many purchase decisions, Michael spends several hours a week locating helpful, sometimes obscure, and sometimes fun, shareware solutions for friends and business associates.

 Michael's audio-visual production company, Informedia was founded on a Friday the 13th over 33 years ago. "Our first AV computer was an Apple // that could control up to 256 Kodak Ektagraphic slide projectors with a whopping 32K of very expensive RAM."
Today, June and Michael Sidoric, and Brett Bunner keep a collective 13 Macs busy. Everything they do is Mac-based: an Xserve handles mail, file-sharing, and web-hosting, while audio, video and special effects production are hosted on stand-alone PowerMac workstations.

Informedia produces and stages international corporate meetings and presentations for a host of clients including: Grupo Modelo, SA de CV (brewers of Corona Beer), The Spoetzl Brewery, The Texas Medical Association, SBC Communications, and Southwest Airlines.

Michael is also assisting Les Filip of Austin's enDesign in an exciting new project networking Apple iPods as 'onQue®' music preview stations. The new design is in final testing at Waterloo Records in Austin.

Location: The CapMac General Meeting is generally held on the second Thursday of every month. We are fortunate to have an excellent meeting space in the "new" UT Pharmacy Building in a tiered auditorium style classroom equipped with state of the art audio and video projection and internet access. There's even power outlets for your PowerBook or iBook!

Getting there: The UT Pharmacy Building is located on University Avenue near the intersection of West 26th Street (which becomes Dean Keeton St. as it passes by the UT Law School). View a map of the vicinity and get driving directions here. The white square in the graphic below shows the location of the Pharmacy Building.

Ample parking is now available just two blocks away in a new multilevel garage (PG4) recently constructed by the University. The garage is located at the corner of 27th Street and University Avenue, with the entrance on 27th Street. Cost is 3.00 for the whole evening.

Get driving directions to the garage and learn about their payment process. Other parking options are available around campus.
