West Decker presents WWDC 2004 Announcements

Thursday, July 8, 2004
7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Apple's annual Worldwide Developer's Conference takes place June 28 through July 2 this year, and is sure to provide a number of exciting announcements.

Apple declares WWDC "the most important week of the year for developers, IT professionals, and digital media authors" and Apple CEO Steve Jobs will kick off this year’s conference with a keynote address that includes a preview of Tiger, the next release of Mac OS X.

Apple Senior Consulting Services Engineer West Decker will be attending WWDC and returns to relate his experiences and share details about the big news we are all eagerly anticipating.

J. Scott Aston, manager of the new Apple Store at Barton Creek will also join us to talk about the excitement of opening Apple's newest retail store and tell us about the many learning opportunities and ongoing events scheduled there this summer.

< Brian Moore and J. Scott Aston address the waiting crowd at the grand opening of the Apple Store at Barton Creek on June 12.

Last year's WWDC brought the introduction of the PowerMac G5, the first public preview of Panther, and the release of iChat AV. This year the public will get its first peek at Tiger, the follow on release for Mac OS X - while other announcements remain tightly under the wrap of secrecy.

When asked what to expect at WWDC 2004, Apple VP of Developer Relations Ron Okamoto responded to MacNewsWorld.com: "We have been very clear with everyone that the Conference is one of those times when Apple is very open about describing where we're going. It's our opportunity to get in front of the developer community and give them an idea of our technology direction for the future."

In another interview with ComputerWorld, Okamoto hinted of additional news: "Last year's WWDC brought several third-party announcements, as well. While Okamoto wouldn't elaborate on the details, it looks like Apple is preparing for more of the same this year. "I can't say who they are, but we have several developers lining up to make sure they are well represented at WWDC," said Okamoto."

We'll also talk about the upcoming CapMac Family Picnic scheduled for Saturday, July 24, and our ongoing CapMac recruiting contest featuring your chance to win cool prizes like an Apple iPod Mini.

CapMac members remember West Decker's WWDC report at last year's July meeting as a highlight of the year. Don't miss your chance to join Austin's Macintosh community as we share the excitement about the future of the Mac on July 8!
