Mac Genius Alex Suarez helps you discover if you are ready for an Intel powered Macintosh

Thursday, April 13, 2006
7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Steve Jobs shocked the computing world on June 6, 2005 with his announcement that Apple computers would switch from PowerPC to Intel processors. Since then discussion about the effects of this change to the Macintosh platform has been extensive and diverse.

On April 5 Apple once again surprised us by inviting Intel Mac owners to test Boot Camp - software that will allow Intel-powered Macintosh computers to run Windows XP along with Mac OS X.

"Mac OS X has been leading a secret double life for the past five years. So today for the first time, I can confirm the rumors that every release of Mac OS X has been compiled for PowerPC and Intel. This has been going on for the last five years."

Steve Jobs, WWDC, June 6, 2005

Alex Suarez, Mac Genius at the Apple Store Barton Creek, joins us April 13 to demonstrate the many benefits of the new Intel Macs, as well as discussing compatibility concerns that prospective buyers should be aware of.

Alex will address popular questions about the new machines, including:
  • Are the new Intel powered Macs really 2-4 time as fast as their predecessors?
  • Can I really run Windows XP on my Intel-powered Macintosh?
  • Will the new Intel powered Macs run Windows applications?
  • Are the new Intel powered Macs more susceptible to viruses and hackers?
  • Will my current software work on an Intel powered Macintosh?
  • Will my peripherals like printers and external hard disks work with an Intel Mac?
  • Is troubleshooting different for Intel powered Macs?
  • What is a "Universal Binary?"
  • Should I buy an Intel powered Macintosh now, or wait awhile?
Apple's first Intel powered Macs were introduced on January 10, 2006 at Macworld Expo San Francisco, with Apple's iMac consumer desktop and professional laptop being the first to make the transition from PowerPC.

The latter was even renamed from PowerBook to MacBook Pro to emphasize the Mac name and professional purpose.
On the last day of February Apple announced a new Intel-powered Mac mini, with VP Phil Schiller announcing that within just 60 days Apple had transitioned 50% of it's entire product line to the new processor.
Be sure to join us for this informative presentation about Apple's revolutionary new Intel-powered Macintosh computers.

We'll also be announcing the winners of our 2006 CapMac web banner contest, providing details of our upcoming member presentation opportunities, and discussing the new location for our general meetings beginning next month.
