Adding Windows to your Mac with Virtual PC 7

Thursday, April 14, 2005
7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Microsoft's Virtual PC makes it possible for you to access PC-only software, files, networks and devices from your Mac. Virtual PC 7, which is compatible with the Mac G5, offers improvements in support, speed and reliability.
At our CapMac meeting on April 12 members Richard Cardona and James Ryan will demonstrate how you can use Virtual PC to run Windows applications on your Macintosh, and review its limitations so that you can have accurate expectations for this product. Additionally, they will describe important security steps you need to take to protect your computer.

Our raffle will include a brand new copy of Virtual PC 7 for Macintosh with Windows XP Professional (249.00 value).

Virtual PC works by emulating a Pentium-based Windows machine, right on your Mac. When you launch Virtual PC, the Windows OS appears inside a window on your Mac desktop. You can switch back and forth between your Mac OS and Windows as easily as you go between any two windows on your Mac desktop. New features include:
  • Zero configuration printing
  • Fast Save that preserves PC state
  • Better graphics handling
  • Expanded preferences
  • G5 Support
  • 10-30% speed improvement
  • Improved setup assistant

"Microsoft, the publisher of Windows and the most popular Windows programs, is enabling the computers sold by its arch-rival, Apple, to run Windows and Windows programs. It's as if the New York Yankees were selling tickets to Boston Red Sox games."

Walt Mossberg
Wall Street Journal

Microsoft acquired Virtual PC from Connectix in 2003, hiring many of the programming team, and committed to continuing development of the Mac product as part of the portfolio of its Macintosh Business Unit. VPC 7 is the first version to be released by Microsoft, and has been highly anticipated for compatibility with Apple's G5 processor.

Microsoft Virtual PC 7
System Requirements

  • Mac OS X v 10.2.8 or later; Mac OS X v 10.3 for G5 compatibility
  • Mac with PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor only — native models, no upgrades
  • Minimum 700 MHz or greater
  • 1024 x 768 display
  • 3GB free hard disk space

Join us for an informative demonstration of Virtual PC 7 delivered by CapMac members who use this product on a regular basis, and find out what it's like to put a little Windows in your Mac. Be sure to invite friends who are recent or possible switchers from Windows that are interested in using Windows-only software on Macintosh.
