Ethan Lowry shows you how to become an iPod expert

Thursday, March 10, 2005
7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

First introduced in 2001, the iPod is credited with no less than transforming Apple from a computer company into a digital entertainment company, and now accounts for more than 35% of the company's revenue.

Despite repeated attempts by monolithic companies like Sony and Dell to challenge it, the iPod still accounts for more than 80 percent of the portable music player market share, and helped Apple in January announce the highest quarterly sales and earnings in its nearly 30 year history.

At our March general meeting we are fortunate to welcome Ethan Lowry, AppleCare engineer for iPod who will provide a comprehensive overview of the entire iPod lineup, recently refreshed with new mini and photo models.

Additionally, Ethan will show us how the iPod is much more than a music player, explaining and demonstrating hot topics like:
  • podcasting
  • audio books
  • calendar
  • notes
  • address book
  • recording (with iTalk)
  • slideshow (iPod photo)
  • cool accessories
  • connecting it to your car
  • third party repair and battery options for out of warranty iPods

Perhaps the most important role the iPod has for Apple is as ambassador of Apple's innovation and quality to Windows users who are ready to consider a platform that isn't plagued with viruses, spyware, and security risks.

A survey in November of 2004 by securities firm Piper Jaffray showed that 13% of iPod users were Windows users who had either bought a Mac or were considering doing so in the next 12 months." Steve Jobs referred to this "halo effect" last month as responsible for the highest quarterly Macintosh sales in over four years.

Join us to learn how you can use your iPod to store driving directions, movie times, appointments and contacts, slideshows of your favorite photos, news headlines and more. Find out about new features of the just released iPods, and see how you can even add new options to your older iPod with a recently released Apple software update. Plus, learn about new accessories from Apple and third parties that you and your iPod won't want to be without.
